Princess Mary and Princess Marie lead royal guests at Queen Margrethe's birthday dinner

Celebrations for Queen Margrethe II's 75th birthday concluded in style on Thursday night. Accompanied by her son Crown Prince Frederik and his wife Crown Princess Mary, as well as a host of European royals, the birthday girl stepped out for a glamorous dinner party and firework display at Fredensborg Castle.The Danish sovereign, who was unaccompanied by her husband Prince Henrik, sported a long-sleeved powder blue gown accessorised with gold and turquoise jewellery. She was closely followed by her younger sisters Princess Benedikte of Denmark and Queen Anne-Marie of Greece.Princess Mary looked as elegant as ever in a stunning silver gown and matching heels while Prince Frederik was dapper in a navy blue tuxedo and bow tie.

Queen Margrethe's younger son Prince Joachim was also in attendance at the soiree. The father-of-four's second wife Princess Marie wore a cream dress with shimmering embellishments and completed her look with a gold clutch bag and an eye-catching floral ring.Also making up the royal guest list were Norway's King Harald, Queen Sonja, Prince Haakon and Princess Mette-Marit as well as Margrethe's brother-in-law King Constantine of Greece.

Representing the Swedish royals were King Carl XVI Gustaf, Queen Silvia, Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel.Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt was also in attendance.A spectacular firework display then coloured the skies above the castle red, pink, orange and silver, much to the delight of the partygoers and royal fans who had gathered at the palace gates.

The birthday girl herself, Queen Margrethe II

Earlier in the week, more European royals had made the journey to Denmark for a ball at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen held in Queen Margrethe's honour.Sporting dazzling tiaras, Queen Letizia of Spain, Queen Mathilde of Belgium and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands showed their support for the Danish monarch accompanied by their respective husbands King Felipe, King Philippe and King Willem-Alexander.
