Spending half the year in his much-loved Africa, doing military work in Australia and New Zealand, receiving a knighthood from the Queen, being involved with the Rugby World Cup and meeting the Obamas – Prince Harry experienced a lot of pinch-yourself moments this year.

But one of the highlights of his year was meeting 95-year-old war veteran Tom Neil.

The pair met at the Battle of Britain flypast in September, on the day of Harry's 31st birthday, and it was clearly an occasion to remember as Harry has chosen to commemorate the moment in his 2015 Christmas card.

Prince Harry said it was an "honour" to meet war veteran Tom Neil

Having left the army in June after ten years of service, the Prince has chosen to pay tribute to the Armed Forces in his latest card.

He spent his birthday at Goodwood Aerodrome in Sussex where he was due to take part in a flypast to mark the 75th anniversary of the victorious Battle of Britain.

But when one of the aircrafts was deemed unserviceable, Harry gave up his seat so that Mr Neil and two other wounded servicemen could take part in the flypast as scheduled.

Harry, who said it was an "honour" to meet Wing Commander Tom Neil DFC, AFC, AE, clutched the veteran's hand before takeoff. Harry was then pictured leaning onto Mr Neil's walking stick as he watched the aircraft take to the skies.

"Merry Christmas from Prince Harry!" a tweet from Kensington Palace read. "Here's his Christmas card photo showing one of his favourite moments from 2015."

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall unveiled their sweet card last week

Harry's Christmas card comes after members of his family have also released theirs. A few days ago his father Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall unveiled their sweet card – a picture that was taken in the summer showing the couple cuddling up to each other in the countryside.

Prince William and Kate issued their first card as a family of four, choosing a gorgeous portrait taken by Mario Testino at baby Princess Charlotte's christening in July.
