Zara Tindall joined friends for an afternoon out at Cheltenham Festival on Tuesday. The 34-year-old appeared to be having fun as she watched the opening races of the festival from a private enclosure.

Wearing a chic burgundy Gabriel Vielma coat and co-ordinating hat, Zara sipped on champagne and chatted to friends including race horse owner Trevor Hemmings. The royal is a regular fixture at the annual festival, and previously attended every day of the four day event in 2015 with her husband Mike Tindall.

Zara last visited the famous horse-racing stadium with Mike in November, where they watched on as her mum Princess Anne opened a new grandstand. The five-and-a-half storey stand, named the Princess Royal Stand, is part of a £45million investment in the arena.

The couple also enjoyed a day out at the Magic Millions races in Australia in January, where Mike revealed that his daughter Mia shares her mother's love of horses. "Mia our daughter has inherited a love of horses, she has a Shetland pony and she enjoys it so I think her mum has passed that love on… me on the other hand, well I'm more of a football man," he told the Sydney Morning Herald.

An accomplished equestrian, Zara is currently training for the 2016 Rio Olympics in a bid to repeat her success as part of Great Britain's Eventing Team, and has credited her daughter Mia with helping her performance.

"Everyone is so different in how they get through competition," Zara told The Telegraph in November. "But I think what everyone has in common is that you perform better if you can relax. Having Mia has definitely enabled me to relax more.

"There's definitely more highs being a mother than being in sport. One thing I do know, I make better decisions now. Before I'd have got on any old horse. Now I'm more selective. And when I see a steep slope, I go round it. Mind, I don't know if that's a product of motherhood or just being older."
