The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge continued their hectic first day in India by visiting the Banganga slums in Mumbai. Prince William and Kate chatted to the slum's residents, who revealed that they had never been visited by celebrities or politicians before.

The couple enjoyed a game of football with the children of the slums, where the coach, Ashok, revealed that meeting the Duke and Duchess was a wonderful surprise. He said: "We never thought that Prince William and Princess Kate would visit a slum and talk to the children. For us this is a big thing. It's like a dream come true."

The couple then met representatives of the charity SMILE, which focuses on giving skills and opportunities to young people and their parents.

Prince William challenged Bollywood dancer Siddesh Tirloskar, who grew up in the slums and went to Dance Academy with the help of SMILE, to a hip hop dance, saying: "Let's see some of your breakdancing moves," then laughed after Kate jokily nudged him to dance, saying: "No, no. I think Siddesh has done a very hard performance, especially in flip flops. Very nice to meet you. Your dancing is very good."

The Duke and Duchess went on to visit the Banganga Water Tank in Mumbai where they were greeted by children dancing and playing lezim steel drums in honour of their arrival. The couple were presented with white, orange and pink garlands and a tika traditional welcome spot on their foreheads before placing floral tributes into the water as an offering.

William and Kate then embarked on a surprise open top bus tour of Mumbai, joining the children from urban slums.

The Duke and Duchess have already had an extremely busy day. After arriving at Mumbai airport, the pair were brought to the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel where they paid tribute to the victims of the 2008 terror attacks by laying a wreath. They then visited the famous Oval Maidan cricket ground to meet children from Magic Bus, Childline and Doorstep charities.

After playing outdoor games and learning Hindi with the children, the couple played cricket with legend cricketer Sachin Tendulkar.
