Prince William had the chance to show off his passion for cars and racing during his tour of India on Monday morning. The future King attended a young entrepreneurs event with his wife the Duchess of Cambridge, née Kate Middleton, when he was invited to step into a Formula E car.

Clearly thrilled by the prospect, William sat in a racing car simulator, placing his hands on the wheel and pretending to steer.

The Prince impressed onlookers, grinning as he "completed" the Buddh International circuit in Delhi, managing a lap time of two minutes six seconds.

"It's a good lap time," said technician Isaias Sousa Valero. "He is a really nice driver and he could come and drive for us anytime with a bit more training."

William and Kate met the team behind Mahindra Racing, an Indian-backed motor racing team that competes in the Formula E championship for F1-style electric cars. The Formula E event is fronted by Spanish businessman Alejandro Agag and uses only electric-powered cars.

The motor racing stand was just one of the displays that William and Kate stopped at during their visit to The Social – a café and collaborative work space in Mumbai. The couple were there to meet some of the city's budding business talent and were given a chance to try out some of their new ideas.

At another stand, William and Kate took turns to put on a blindfold and learnt how to type in Braille – very sweetly, they typed the word 'George' referring to their two-year-old son.

Kate had admitted that her son George and her daughter Princess Charlotte were on her mind as she attended a glittering gala event the night before. The mum-of-two spoke to Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit about her family.

"She said she loves being here and the people are very welcoming, but she was worried she may miss her children," Madhuri told reporters at the evening do.
