Princess Charlene of Monaco and her husband Prince Albert left their twins at home as they enjoyed a day date over the weekend. The couple stepped out for the Monte-Carlo Masters final, where they watched Rafael Nadal score his first tournament victory of the year.

Charlene and Albert shared the spotlight with the Spanish tennis player, as they were pictured taking their seats in the VIP box at the Monte-Carlo Country Club.

The princess and former Olympian cut an elegant figure, wearing a chic navy jacket and matching cropped trousers. She swept her pixie blonde hair to the side and added to her glamorous look with a pop of red lipstick.

As they took in the action Charlene, 38, and Albert, 58, swapped commentary and applauded Nadal who beat France's Gael Monfils. Monaco's most famous couple also shared a rare display of public affection, as Albert was pictured sweetly kissing his wife's head as she leant into him.

The lovebirds had left their children at home as they attended the engagement together. Charlene and Albert had the chance to congratulate Nadal in person as they joined the champion – and his silver trophy – on court and posed for official photos.

The pair welcomed their twins Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella in December 2014, three years after they married. Charlene was most recently spotted taking her 16-month-old son to a rugby tournament in February.

The mum-of-two proudly carried her little boy around the Stade Louis II in Monaco and at one point crouched down to give him a sweet hug from behind. Notably missing from the fun was Jacques' twin sister Gabriella.

The princess has described her son and daughter as "very active, very playful, absolutely adorable"

In December royal fans were given a glimpse of what everyday life is like for the royal twins, as Charlene and Albert gave cameras access to film the family at home. In the touching video Charlene can be seen playing peek-a-boo as she entertains her children.

In the interview, filmed in English and French, the babies played at their parents' feet amid a selection of their favourite toys. Charlene started off by describing her children as "very active, very playful, absolutely adorable, lots of fun" adding with a laugh: "And a lot of work."

Speaking in French, Albert said that the twins are contented and rarely cry: "I have never really heard them complain. Yes, when they are hungry (they do) but they've never been noisy (except when) they are being joyful."
