Who's attending King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden's 70th birthday? The royal guest list revealed

Royals from all over Europe will descend on Sweden at the end of the month to celebrate King Carl XVI Gustaf's 70th birthday. A total of five days have been dedicated to mark the king's special milestone, with famous faces attending at different points.

King Juan Carlos of Spain and his wife Queen Sofia are confirmed on the guest list, according to HELLO!'s sister publication HOLA! while the current reigning couple King Felipe and Queen Letizia may also attend.

The whole of the Norwegian royal family are also invited – King Harald V and Queen Sonja, their children Crown Prince Haakon and Princess Märtha Louise and the pair's respective spouses Princess Mette-Marit and Ari Behn.

King Carl XVI Gustaf is turning 70 on Saturday 30 April

From Denmark, Queen Margrethe II, who has just celebrated her 76th birthday, is also invited. The queen will be joined by her husband Prince Henrik, their eldest son Crown Prince Frederik and Frederik's Australian wife Crown Princess Mary. Margrethe's sister Princess Benedikte will complete the Danish royal party.

Representing from Sweden, King Carl's whole family will step out in full force. His wife Queen Silvia will support him throughout the celebrations, as well as their daughter and future queen Crown Princess Victoria and Victoria's husband Prince Daniel.

The Danish royals are expected to attend

Princess Madeleine and her husband Chris O'Neill are expected to travel from London, where they are based with their two young children, to Madeleine's native Sweden.

Prince Carl Philip and his wife Princess Sofia have just welcomed their first child Prince Alexander. Carl Philip is expected to support his dad as he turns 70, as will Sofia, although the new mum may make fewer appearances.

Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia have just become first-time parents

The celebrations will officially kick off on 25 April and come to an end on the 30th, the king's actual birthday. A host of activities have been planned, including lavish banquets, carriage processions, a gun salute and musical concerts.

In keeping with tradition, the festivities will start at 8 o'clock in the morning on Saturday 30 April. Forty three Swedish flags will be hoisted in the outer courtyard of the royal palace in Stockholm while a royal band plays.

King Carl, who has reigned for 42 years, and his family will attend a Te Deum thanksgiving service followed by a luncheon with VIPs and their royal guests in the palace's State Hall.
