Fashion followers might well recognise the dress – Maxima last wore the striking ensemble in March when she attended a state dinner in Paris with her husband and French president Francois Hollande.

Following the concert, Maxima and Willem-Alexander left together on a boat down the river Amstel, sent on their way by wellwishers lining the route.

The Amstel Concert takes place on a floating podium

In Amsterdam, the celebrations conclude with one of the biggest events of the day, the Amstel Concert. Artists from diverse musical genres perform on an enormous floating podium on the river in front of the stately Royal Carre Theatre, and the concert is traditionally attended by the King and Queen.
