Similarities are often drawn between the Duchess of Cambridge and Princess Mary of Denmark's sense of style, and now royal fans have been given the chance to see how their homes compare after the Danish royals hosted a dinner at the royal palace, Amalienborg.

Crown Princess Mary and her husband Crown Prince Frederik invited the Advisory Board of the Global Green Growth Forum for the dinner on Tuesday, welcoming them into the living room at the home they share with their four children.

Photos from the meeting reveal that the royal couple have chosen a number of décor details that are similar to Prince William and Kate's London home, Apartment 1A in Kensington Palace.

Both living rooms have two sofas in neutral tones and two chairs with a cushioned coffee table at the centre – Mary's is a square orange design, while William and Kate have opted for a cream octagon shaped table.

Gilt detailing and gold framed pieces of artwork are prominent in both living rooms, as are tapestry rugs and beautiful plants or flowers. But while William and Kate have placed a number of lamps around the room, a magnificent chandelier serves as the main source of lighting and focal point of Frederik and Mary's lounge.

The similarities don't end there; each royal couple has a number of small tables topped with candles and coffee table books dotted around their room as well as floor-length curtains at the windows.

However there is a distinctly more homely feel to the Cambridge's apartment, with keepsakes, ornaments and family photos adding a little more character to their décor.

For her 40th birthday portraits, Queen Letizia also showed off her stylish home

They are not the only young royals to offer fans a glimpse behind closed doors at their regal homes, Queen Letizia and King Felipe VI of Spain have previously shared official portraits from the royal residence they share with their two daughters Princess Leonor and Princess Sofia.
