The Duchess of Cambridge has an exciting and artsy engagement scheduled for next month. Kensington Palace has revealed that Kate will present the Art Fund's Museum of the Year 2016 prize at a dinner on Wednesday 6 July.

The lavish event will take place at the National History Museum in London, of which Kate is patron.

The five shortlisted museums are the Arnolfini in Bristol, the York Art Gallery, the Jupiter Artland in Edinburgh, the V&A in London and the Bethlem Museum of the Mind in Kent.

Kate's last engagement at the Natural History Museum was in 2014

Kate last carried out an engagement at the Natural History Museum in October 2014 when she presented Carlos Perez Naval with the Young Wildlife Photographer of The Year award.

However, Prince William's wife also visits the museum in her private time. She was famously spotted at the iconic tourist attraction with her son Prince George in October last year. The pair were spotted exploring Hintze Hall, which houses the 292-bone cast of a Diplodocus dinosaur skeleton.

The Duchess studied History of Art at university

Kate has long been passionate about painting, photography and the arts. She graduated from the University of St Andrews in 2005 with a 2:1 in History of Art. It was there that she met her future husband Prince William, who enrolled on the same degree before switching to Geography.

The Duchess' creative flair was put to good use long before she became a member of the royal family. After graduating, Kate worked for her family's company Party Pieces and went on to launch First Birthdays, a junior brand to Party Pieces. Her role in the family business included catalogue design and production, marketing and photography.

After joining the royal family, Kate chose to support charities and patronages that reflect her arty interests. She is patron of The National Portrait Gallery and The Art Room, a charity that works with children to increase their self-esteem, self-confidence and independence through art.

The Duchess's enthusiasm for photography has also seen her take some of the official portraits of her children Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

Instead of hiring a royal photographer, Kate took Charlotte's first official portraits just a few weeks after the birth. She once again turned photographer for Charlotte's first birthday portraits in May 2016. The Duchess also shared photos from Prince George's first day at nursery in January.
