Princess Charlotte's first royal engagement

One of the biggest things to expect from William and Kate's royal tour of Canada is Princess Charlotte's first official engagement, if she and big brother Prince George make an appearance. George completed his first official public engagement when he was eight months old, during his mum and dad's royal tour of New Zealand.

If Charlotte does make an appearance, it will mean lots of adorable new photos of the young royal spending time with her parents and brother.

Prince George and Princess Charlotte interacting

When we saw them together at her christening, curious George was clearly in awe of Charlotte but she was still in a pram – meaning we didn't get to see much of their sibling bond.

If they join Kate and William in Canada, now Charlotte is older, we should get to see them having a lot of fun together.

Kate's clothes

Perhaps even bigger than the race to recreate outfits worn by George and Charlotte is the Kate effect. Fashionistas all over the world will have their eye on the outfits the Duchess debuts in Canada, recycled or not.

If Kate wears something new, it's likely the outfit will be a nod to her surroundings and, if not by a Canadian label, could pay tribute to the red and white flag. While on tour of India and Bhutan earlier this year, Kate was pictured wearing dresses by local designers including Anita Dongre.

Casual Kate and William

When Kate and William visited Canada in 2011, we saw the casual side to them emerge. On a visit to the Calgary Stampede, the Duke and Duchess both worn jeans and cowboy hats, and William even teamed his with a plaid shirt!

In July, Kate and her husband took George to the Royal International Air Tattoo and, given William's RAF background, they might decide to visit the Canadian air force. If they do, the couple could decide to take inspiration from the blue uniforms.

Their competitive side

Kate and William undoubtedly had loads of fun during their time in Canada the first time around, and joined in on activities including canoeing and dragon boat racing.

Away from the water, ice hockey is widely considered one of the most popular sports in Canada – so could we see the Duke and Duchess participate in a friendly game?

Nature activities

Kate and William previously gave back to nature and attended a tree-planting ceremony in Ottawa. The Duchess even grabbed a spade and helped out with digging!

If they want to see something truly breath-taking, Kate and William should head north on a clear night, away from the hustle and bustle and lights of the cities, to see the Northern Lights. Yellowtail, in the Northwest Territories, is considered one of the best places to experience this.

Trying local foods

They're used to trying local delicacies while on tour, and last time around Kate and William got involved in a cookery class and watched fresh lobsters being served up.

One food Canadian delicacy is BeaverTails. Don't worry, these aren't the tails of adorable beavers – it's just pastry stretched out into the shape of one and fried, before being topped with mouth-watering morcels like cream and berries. They're said to be so good even President Obama made sure to try one during a trip in 2009!

Intimate moments

It's usually when they're on tour that we get to see the Duke and Duchess being more intimate with each other.

During their last tour of India and Bhutan, we saw lots of hand-holding and hugging, and general affectionate moments, from Kate and William, which show the world just how in love they are.

Fun activities

Last time they were here they were treated to a performance from Aboriginal dancers, so it's safe to assume Kate and William will make sure they fit in another fun experience this time around. If they decide they want to be involved, they could turn to one of the most exciting activities to do in Canada.

The Western part of the country is known for its horseback rides across the Canadian Rockies and, if the Duke and Duchess choose to get involved, they'll see mountain peaks, beautiful green valleys and crystal clear lakes.

Crowds of fans and amazing presents

One of the best things about tour for Kate and William is getting to meet their international supporters.

Unsurprisingly huge crowds gather wherever the Duke and Duchess travel, and these fans usual bring exciting presents for them - just like this woman with her amazing tapestry of Kate and William's wedding day!
