The official portraits of Prince Alexander of Sweden at his christening have been released by the Swedish royal palace. The little boy, who is four-months-old, was the picture of cuteness and as good as gold as he posed with his family members.

One beautiful portrait showed Alexander sitting on the lap of his mum Princess Sofia, dressed in his traditional christening gown that was first worn by Prince Gustaf Adolf in 1906.

He perfectly matched his mum, who was her stunning self in a white broderie anglaise dress and a dainty pearl headband. Baby Alexander sported a sweet expression as he looked upwards, while his dad Prince Carl Philip looked as proud as punch.

Sofia and Carl Philip also posed with their siblings in another photo – Sofia with her two sisters and Carl Philip with his two siblings, Crown Princess Victoria and Princess Madeleine.

The couple, who married last year, were also joined by their parents in another photo, and the five godparents they have chosen for their newborn – Princess Victoria, Sofia's sister Lina Frejd, Sofia's childhood friend Wendy Larsson, Carl Philip's cousin Victor Magnuson, and his close friend and best man at his wedding Jan-Åke Hansson.

The portraits were taken by Mattias Edwall following the christening at Drottningholm Palace Chapel on Friday.

The ceremony was steeped in tradition, with baby Alexander naturally stealing the show. The little boy, who is fifth-in-line to the Swedish throne, was baptised in a beautiful ceremony using water from a spring on the island of Öland – a long-standing tradition. His parents and godparents gathered around him as he was blessed at the font.

Alexander sat on his mum's lap for most of the ceremony and melted hearts when he was pictured bonding with his cousin Prince Oscar – Princess Victoria's son who is one month older than him.
