Prince Harry has often turned to the upmarket Chelsea to ring in his birthday but this year the Queen's grandson chose to party at Balmoral in Scotland.

Harry was joined by his nearest and dearest as he rang in his 32nd birthday on the secluded royal estate. The Prince held a shooting party - much like Prince William and Kate did the week before - making the most of the lochs, forests, mountains and vast green Highlands space.

His cousin Princess Eugenie and Eugenie's boyfriend Jack Brooksbank were spotted touching down in Scotland on Thursday, on Harry's birthday, for the party.

Celebrating at Balmoral will have come as a breath of fresh air for Harry, who is used to hosting parties in London.

The Prince is a fan of the outdoors life and will have enjoyed catching up with his family and friends, filling them in on his latest adventures; Harry has just returned from a summer in Africa where he worked on conservation projects.

Balmoral is the perfect place to host large gatherings. The convivial atmosphere makes for a relaxing stay for guests; picnics, home cinema evenings, games and bracing walks are laid on.

Eugenie herself has said in the past how beautiful Balmoral is – and how it ranks highly as one of the Queen and Prince Philip's favourite royal homes.

"Walks, picnics, dogs – a lot of dogs, there's always dogs – and people coming in and out all the time. It's a lovely base for Granny and Grandpa, for us to come and see them up there; where you just have room to breathe and run," Princess Eugenie said on ITV's Our Queen At Ninety.

"It's the most beautiful place on earth," she added. "I think Granny is the most happy there. I think she really, really loves the Highlands."

Harry and Eugenie stayed for the whole weekend, as the Prince was spotted driving his cousin to church on Sunday. His celebration at home comes just before Harry's day of engagements, which will take place in Aberdeen on Tuesday.
