The Prince of Wales has been friends with both Camilla and her former husband since he was a young man |
There is a longtime link between Charles' and Camilla's families. Tom and Laura's father, army officer Andrew Parker Bowles, was a friend of the Prince, and Charles' future stepson is already one of his many godchildren.
Reports of a budding friendship among the younger foursome – Wills, Harry, Tom and Laura – emerged in 1998, just prior to Charles' 50th birthday, where Camilla made one of her earliest appearances as the Prince's companion. At that time, Tom, in his early 20s, seemed something of a role model for the teen royals. "The boys rather look up to Tom as a young man about town," a royal aide said in 1998.
