The youngster approached the man, who had a similar white beard and red shirt to Santa, and heart-warmingly he plays along. "Have you been a good girl this year?" he asks, adding: "Are you getting ready for Christmas?"
The shopper played along and pretended to be Santa
After some prompting from her mum, Sophie tells 'Santa' that she is going to leave cookies out for him on Christmas Eve. "Can I eat them all?" he asks, to which she says he can have one, but he has to share the rest with his reindeers.
At the end of their chat, Sophie waves and says thank you, while 'Santa' wishes her a Merry Christmas.
Sophie's father Robert captured the sweet conversation and shared a video of their outing on Facebook, where it has quickly gone viral and been viewed almost 140,000 times.
Sophie was shopping with her parents in Walmart when she saw 'Santa'
"Sophie found Santa at Walmart this evening. She saw him then kept sneaking up on him. She asked if he was Santa at first and if you turn up the volume you can hear the rest. So cute and innocent. I love this!!" Robert wrote.
It has since been revealed that 'Santa Claus' was local man Roger Larck, who was shopping with his wife Robin. After the video went viral, Roger's family contacted Robert and said that meeting Sophie was "the best present he has received for a long long time".
Roger also shared the video on his own Facebook page, writing: "Christmas is always a fun time around little kids but this little girl was just so sweet and innocent it was a real pleasure talking with her."
