Whisky-drinking 110-year-old 'not one bit' excited about her birthday party

Flossie Dickey found herself at the centre of local media attention last week when she celebrated her landmark 110th birthday. Not that she was particularly excited about the event herself. "I'm tired," she told Spokane's Good Day show on Thursday. "I just want to take a nap."

The reluctant star, who has three children, 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 15 great-great grandchildren, was then asked if she was looking forward to a birthday party her family were throwing to mark the occasion. "Not one bit," she replied.

Many of the presenter's question were met with one word answers, or complete silence as Flossie nonchalantly sipped coffee from her mug. Her fullest response came when she was asked what the secret was to her age. "I don't know," she replied. "I don't fight it. I live it."

Kris Bahr, who works at the Cheney Care Centre in Washington, told the show: "She's a jokester. Her favourite thing, according to her family, is to sit down and have some whisky, straight up."
