Candace Payne had just finished her shopping when she impulsively decided to treat herself to a silly present as part of her "birthday joy," and reached out to her friends by broadcasting herself trying on her new toy - a Star Wars Chewbacca mask - through Facebook Live video streaming.
After trying on the mask, the mum-of-two is unable to contain her joy when she sees her reflection, shouting "I'm such a happy Chewbacca!"
Viewers found the situation just as hilarious as Candace, with one Facebook user commenting: "I'm not sure what I love more...the super cool amazing mask or the level of your joy!!!" while another wrote: "This is my favorite video I have EVER seen! I'm laughing so hard with you!"
The video has shattered the previous Facebook Live video record-holder of an exploding watermelon produced by Buzzfeed, and Candace spoke to BBC about the video.
She said: "I could see myself in the camera, and I saw this view and I could not stop laughing at how gleeful Chewbacca looked. I thought 'Chewbacca's found his joy!'"
"When you are a stay-at-home mom, every now and then you just need an adult conversation. Like 'Please someone else out there in the universe or Internet tell me I'm not the only one who finds this funny.'"
She also revealed to Buzzfeed how she never expected the video to go viral. She said: "Immediately after I posted it I had people starting to text me, 'That was hilarious, I'm sharing it right now.'
"In my wildest dreams I thought, 'Wow, this may reach 1,000 people.' I am baffled as to why so many people wanted to look at it and share it, other than the fact that it makes them have a good laugh with a friend and they wanted to laugh with me."
