ROYALS SET SAIL FOR SOME SEAFARING FUN

06 JULY 2004

The Spanish royals have been indulging in some friendly competition at the Queen's Cup boat race in Valencia. King Juan Carlos was photographed helping out aboard Prada, which belongs to the fashion label of the same name, before setting sail with his own crew on El Bribon.

His son, Crown Prince Felipe, was meanwhile pitching in on CAM, which romped home in second place. The bearded royal received a warm embrace from his wife when he arrived back on dry land. Princess Letizia, who spent the afternoon in Valencia Yacht Club with her mother-in-law Queen Sofia, was clearly delighted at her husband's success.

And there quite a few other royal visitors taking part in the event. Princess Cristina, together with her cousin Alexia of Greece, was backing the Azur de Puig while King Harald of Norway took charge of Fram XV.

The king and queen of Sweden were also enjoying some nautical R&R, albeit of a less competitive variety. While the Spanish and Norwegian royals were battling it out in the waters off Valencia, King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia were relaxing on a motorboat off the coast of St Tropez.
