Death in Paradise, the hugely popular BBC1 detective drama in which Kris Marshall plays British detective Humphrey Goodman DI, an archetypal fish out of water, is filmed on the island of Guadeloupe. The series, which continues at 9pm on Tuesdays and has been attracting a whopping seven million viewers per episode, has provided a very welcome splash of Caribbean sunshine to brighten up our dark and dreary winter nights.
We have just visited the French Caribbean island, and can confirm that that this archipelago of five islands is a truly breathtaking tourist destination. It boasts the sort of palm tree-fringed white sands usually seen in expensive sequences during 007 movies. You half-expect to see a gorgeous, bikini-clad Bond girl emerging from the travel-brochure-perfect aquamarine sea. So we can now officially report: Guadeloupe is indeed paradise.
