Review: The Tonga Room & Hurricane Bar, San Francisco

There are hundreds of thing to do in San Francisco, as any travel guide will tell you. But we believe that a trip to the city wouldn't be complete without visiting the Tonga Room & Hurricane Bar in the Fairmont Hotel.

The Tonga Room offers delicious Polynesian Cuisine in a tropical setting. Tables are located around a swimming pool that the hotel turned into a tropical rain forest 70 years ago. Thunder, lightning and hourly showers occur in between live entertainment which consists of a band floating out on a barge.

The waiters are delightful – we learned about the history of the incredible restaurant and we were regaled with stories of the Tiki culture.

The food is divine – particular favourites included the Huli Huli Chicken and the Tonga Hot Pot, a delicious seafood dish that we craved long after visiting the restaurant.
