Happy Friday! There's plenty to do this weekend - you'll find us hitting up the most Instagramable new cocktail bar in Covent Garden, and also eating our way through some of London's most enticing restaurants. Read on for fun things to do in the city...
Have a drink at London's most Instagramable bar
There's a hot new basement bar in Covent Garden, and it's called Blame Gloria. From the pink ceilings and the floral wallpaper to the electric party atmosphere, it's a cracking spot for a catch up (and a knees-up). The menu has a 20-strong list of cocktails, from porn star martinis all the way to unique mixes, like Ziggy's Stardust, with bottles of bubbly stashed away in the fridge too. Make sure you arrive with a fully charged phone though, as you'll be taking tonnes of snaps at this Insta-worthy hotspot.
Watch Bodyguard on the big screen outdoors
If you're not feeling another night of binge watching Netflix, make a dash for Metro Clapham. They're screening a series of movies in their hidden garden over the coming weeks, and this Sunday night they're putting Bodyguard on the big screen. Tickets are £15 a pop but they include popcorn, a glass of wine or beer, and a hot dog. Not a meat eater? No problem. They have a delicious veggie option up their sleeves.
Enjoy live performances at Quaglino's
Q Live is back at Quaglino's. Anticipate live performances from talented vocalists, drink world class wines and enjoy fine dining in the affluent backdrop in Mayfair. As a tribute to Aretha Franklin, Q Live will celebrate the Queen of Soul with performances of all of her classics including R-E-S-P-E-C-T, Say a Little Prayer and Natural Woman.
Hold onto the last of the summer sun at Bluebird
Why not head to the courtyard at Bluebird where The Palm rosé has taken over the terrace this month. Decorated with palm trees, flamingoes and large pink surfboard, the terrace gives off a true topical holiday vibe. After drinks make sure you head to the beautiful restaurant, where you can sample the delectable menu, which consists of spiced roast chicken, lamb chops and plenty more!
For a classy dining experience head to Roka
Think incredible tempura prawns and sushi rolls! Take a trip to Roka Aldwych to sample their eclectic menu of sushi, gyoza and cocktails; dishes on offer include sake teriyaki, tempura no moriawase and soba salada no kurumi. There is a diverse drinks list on offer too, and customers get a glimpse at their food being prepared through the open kitchen.
Get competitive at Bottomless Shuffle Brunch
What's better than bottomless brunch? Bottomless Shuffle Brunch that's what. Launching this weekend at London Shuffle Club, the venue will be hosting its weekend brunch sessions every Saturday and Sunday, which means two hours of bottomless beer, Prosecco and pizza for all. There'll be four types of pizza to choose from and each ticket includes 30 minutes of shuffleboarding. All this while bopping along to the best funk, soul and disco tunes. The bottomless brunch is launching as part of Brunch Weekender - an event to celebrate the capital's coolest brunching spots.
Bag yourself some free chips in Soho
Chipnation is opening in Soho this weekend and on Friday, the eatery is offering FREE chips for everyone who drops in from 12 to 2pm. Guests can choose from a whopping 7,000 different flavour combinations, including ketchup, mayo, tartar, hot buffalo wing and Korean BBQ sauce plus a bunch of vegan options. And good news for veggies, the chips are fully vegetarian. Head down to 40 Great Windmill Street - it's first come, first served.
Tuck into some Turkish
Eating around Leicester Square can feel like a bit of a tourist trap, but Ali Ocakbasi is worth a visit if you're in the centre of town. The Turkish restaurant has an abundance of dishes to choose from, with showstoppers including their range of traditional pizzas. Topping include seasoned lamb, Anatolian sausage, spinach and aubergine sauce. Kebab lovers will want to try the mixed platter or the barbecued chicken wings. And for dessert, you can't miss the katmer - flaky pastry filled with pistachio and served with ice cream. It's a must, even if you are absolutely stuffed.
Make Monday movie night in Croydon
Move over Shoreditch, Box Park Croydon is the new place to be. Technically not a weekend event, but this is one not to miss! Whilst you absolutely should come with a few pounds to spend on the many tempting menus on offer, there's still time to have some super-nostalgic fun for free, courtesy of Monday Night Movies. This Monday 24 September, it's the Will Smith classic, Hitch, and the following week (Monday 8 October) it's a celebration of 15 years "sticking it to the man" with a special screening of School of Rock. Showings start at 7.30pm. Popcorn at the ready!
