Tourists in Rome got a starry eyeful on Monday as they watched Hollywood actor Tom Cruise zoom down the Tiber River in a speedboat.
The handsome megastar stole the spotlight from the Italian city's stunning sights as he ran through some high-octane scenes for the upcoming action flick Mission: Impossible 3. "St Peter's will be here tomorrow," said one Spanish sightseer who postponed a trip to the Vatican to watch the Hollywood spectacle. "Tom Cruise probably won't be."
Hoping to catch a glimpse of the headline-making star, fans lined bridges overlooking the Tiber and climbed to the uppermost point of ancient Sant'Angelo Castle, perched high above the waterway. The circular monument, which was once a papal fortress, served a decidedly more glamorous purpose as visitors snapped photos of Tom – and his on-set companion, fiancée Katie Holmes – from the lofty vantage point.
Tom, who went public with the relationship during an April visit to the city, once again made the most of romantic Rome, stealing kisses from the pretty brunette in between takes.
Onlookers will be able to further combine star-spotting with their touring to-do list in upcoming days as the movie is due to be shot at a number of locations in the historic city. Reportedly on the roster are the Trevi fountain, famously captured on celluloid in La Dolce Vita, and the scenic surroundings near St Peter's Square.
