Dick Turpin is just one of the spirits that is said to roam the rooms; his faithful horse Black Bess apparently haunts the car park while downstairs, Black Dick, a moneylender, has been known to pull on the sleeves of drinkers (he was run over by a cart and horse outside the pub).

No-one knows quite who or what is the spooky spirit that roams the pub, but customers are reported to have heard wailing from the walls and staff refuse to go alone to the cellar after the landlord found himself trapped in there one evening.
