Turner Contemporary

The Duchess of Cambridge, née Kate Middleton, shone a further spotlight on the Turner Contemporary art gallery when she visited it in March of this year, just two months before welcoming Princess Charlotte. The museum is home to various exhibitions, including three which are set to close in September – Grayon Perry: Provincial Punk, Year of Mexico in the UK: Carlos Amorales and Christopher Alexander. It's free entry for most exhibitions and a two-hour drive from London, perfect for the Bank Holiday weekend.

Mac & Wild

In late celebration of National Burger Day, which fell on Thursday 27 August, dine at the newly opened Mac & Wild restaurant in central London. Try the crowd-pleasing Veni-Moo burger, which won Best Burger of London 2015, which is being sold for just £5 until 30 August to mark the restaurant's launch. A delicious mixture of a beef patty with a venison patty, béarnaise sauce, cheese, caramelised onions and a brioche bun – it'll go down a treat. Other dishes on the Scottish-based menu include venison tartar, cured smoked scallops, venison steak and duck fat chips.

It's the last weekend of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and there are still tickets to some of the plays, comedies and sketches. On the political end of the spectrum, the Proteus Theatre Company present a drama 12.10.15 – the tale of two women who live exactly 100 years apart but whose lives are defined by conflict. A war-hardened, weary and cynical 21st century female war correspondent is being held in a Middle Eastern city. As she awaits her fate, she finds surprising parallels and strength recounting the story of a woman also caught in the centre of male-dominated warfare.

The Man from U.N.C.L.E

David Beckham fans can see the legendary footballer on screen, as he plays a cameo role in Guy Ritchie's new film The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Set at the height of the Cold War and starring Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer, the action film tells the tale of a CIA agent and a KGB agent having to put aside their differences and work together to stop evildoers in their tracks. A mysterious criminal organisation plans to use nuclear weapons and technology to upset the fragile balance of power between the United States and Soviet Union, and for now, the agents' only lead is the daughter of a missing German scientist.

The queen of historical fiction Philippa Gregory has just released a new book about King Henry VIII's last wife, Kateryn Parr. The novel answers the question of just who was the sixth wife.
