Amaluna

Prepare to be astonished and astounded! Amaluna, a Cirque du Soleil production, is making its debut in the UK next year at the Royal Albert Hall. Set on a mysterious island governed by goddesses, Amaluna is loosely based on Shakespeare's The Tempest. The magical show tells the story of Queen Prospera's daughter, who falls in love with a brave young suitor in the wake of a storm caused by her mother. The couple must face numerous demanding trials and overcome daunting setbacks before they can achieve mutual trust, faith and harmony. The show runs from January 16 to March 6 and promises mind-bowing acts from the nearly-all female cast.

The Danish Girl

What better way to start the year than watching Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne on the big screen? Out on 1 January, The Danish Girl features the British heart-throb and rising star Alicia Vikander who play a married couple. Eddie takes on the role of Lili Elbe, one of the first known recipients of sex reassignment surgery, while Alicia plays artist Gerda Wegener. It is 1920s Copenhagen, and Gerda asks her husband to stand in for a female model. When Gerda's portraits grow in popularity, the artist continues to paint her husband Einar as a woman. Einar becomes obsessed with the female physical appearance and starts to live as a woman Lili. Their marriage becomes strained and a complex love triangle soon develops after Einar's childhood friend Hans shows up on the scene.

Say HELLO! to 2016 with a celebration at NOLA in Shoreditch. The speakeasy-style bar, inspired by New Orleans, will be hosting its New Year's Eve party. Guests will receive a welcome glass of Ruinart Champagne on arrival, and a glass to toast the New Year at midnight. They will be invited to savour unlimited specially crafted cocktails and canapés inspired by the Deep South, while listening to live blues and jazz music from the Joe Strouzer band. Doors open at 9:30am and tickets cost £150 including unlimited cocktails.
