It's the day Game of Thrones fans have been waiting for... On Monday the fantasy drama returns to screens for series six and viewers will be one step closer to discovering what really happened to Jon Snow in the aftermath of the events at The Wall.

Over the years cast and crew members have jetted around the world to shoot some of the most memorable scenes. The primary location for filming started off in Belfast and surrounding areas in Northern Ireland, and later moved to Malta and Morocco.

Since then, Croatia, Spain, Iceland and even Canada and the US have been added as filming locations.

Iceland, better known as The Wall, is a favourite filming location

As series six looms, travel sites have seen a spike in their bookings, suggesting that Game of Thrones fans are keen to experience The Seven Kingdoms for themselves.

eDreams.co.uk has seen a 20 per cent increase in bookings to Iceland's capital Reykjavik. With its endless reserves of natural beauty, geothermal outdoor pools and unspoilt landscape, Iceland, better known as The Wall, has always been a favourite with the filming crew.

The Land of the Vikings has been used as a location since series two. Its ominous snowy backdrop is perfect for The Wall, while Grjótagjá and Höfðabrekka, better known as Jon Snow and Ygritte's Spring Cave, is also found in Iceland.

Other scenes set north of the Wall, in the Frostfangs, and at the Fist of the First Men were also filmed on the North Atlantic Island.

Joining Iceland as another top location is Croatia, aka King's Landing. In season two filming of southern scenes shifted from Malta and Morocco to Croatia. The historic walls of Dubrovnik city and the Fort Lovrijenac fortress were used for scenes in King's Landing and the Red Keep.

Split also featured as the capital of The Seven Kingdoms. On the back of this, eDreams.co.uk has seen a 23 per cent increase in bookings to the city.
