With hotel rooms reportedly sold out in Windsor following last week’s confirmation of the royal wedding date it is likely the pretty town of Windsor will come to a standstill on Saturday May 18. As it prepares for the royal fans and world’s media expected to flock to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding, Windsor will take centre stage. All eyes will of course be on the stunning Windsor Castle where the couple will tie the knot but we look at what else the historic town has to offer guests with our royally good look at some of its main attractions.

Windsor Castle is the stunning setting for the Royal wedding

The castle will of course be closed to the public on Saturday May 18 but that doesn’t mean you can’t get up close to it. Even when a royal wedding is not taking place, the views of the castle are stunning. With the royal ceremony taking place at the 15th-century St George’s Chapel in the grounds of Windsor Castle, you’ll be as close as possible to the action and really soak up the royal vibes as you immerse yourself in the hordes of people expected to camp out overnight to secure themselves a decent view of the royal couple.

Windsor Great Park

The park runs alongside the castle and is certainly worth a visit if you are looking for something to do the day before the wedding. With over 4,800 acres for you to explore, it’s the perfect way to stretch your legs if you are planning on spending all of the following day watching the wedding in the same spot! The park has a royal history spanning over 1,000 years so you will encounter historical monuments, ancient forests and stunning horticultural displays to get you in the mood for the royal celebrations.

Eton High Street

Just a ten-minute walk to the castle, the high street is a brilliant place to position yourself during the royal wedding preparations. With the prince and Meghan having indicated a wish for the public to be involved in their day of “fun and joy”, royal fans will be hoping to catch a glimpse of the bride and groom, perhaps in a carriage drive through the town’s quintessentially English high street.

Take a boat trip along the River Thames and take in the views of Windsor Castle

Transport into Windsor throughout the wedding weekend will be heaving, with seats already booked up on train lines into the town. Why not try and take a boat trip instead along the River Thames in the direction of the celebrations instead? Many boat tours take you right past the front of Windsor castle so if you are lucky you may well see a part of the action away from all the other visitors.

LEGOLAND

Legoland has a miniland devoted to the Royal family

Just under an hours walk away from the castle, and a 15-minute drive, LEGOLAND is one of the main attractions of Windsor. In fact, the theme park even has its own minland dedicated to the royals; with a display of the newly-weds no doubt popping up soon! Ignore your fear of heights just the once and you may get a chance to spot some of the royal preparations from the sky above on one of the thrill-seeking rides.

The Queens walkway

What better way to celebrate the royal event than taking a stroll along this walking route that was designed in September 2015 to mark the occasion of The Queen becoming Britain's longest reigning monarch? Opened by The Queen on her 90th birthday last year, the walkway is a symbolic 6.373km long for the 63 years, seven months and three days (one day more than Queen Victoria's reign) and takes you around lots of points of royal interest.
