Fashion month isn't over until Versace says so – that was the crystal-clear message delivered by the Italian luxury label at its Los Angeles AW23 show.

Front row regulars and celebrity friends of the house gathered at the Pacific Design Centre on Thursday and the little black dress ruled the roost among attendees.

Lily James, Anne Hathaway and Dua Lipa all received the unofficial outfit memo, each sporting stylish black dresses for the hotly anticipated showcase.

There are few garments more iconic than the little black dress. The stone-cold classic features within the wardrobes of so many, unsurprising, given its universal abiliy to flatter.

The LBD is seriously versatile – the chic shade exudes polish, and yet the simply cut silhouette can be styled up or dressed down depending on the occasion.

Lily looked characteristically glamorous in an asymmetric knee-length number. Her plush velvet dress featured a plunging neckline, a seriously daring thigh slit and XXL safety pin detailing.

Another vote for the LBD came in the form of Anne Hathaway's look. The Les Misérables star looked suitably sultry in a glossy alligator-effect mini dress. The piece featured a fitted bodice and a puff skirt silhouette and was teamed alongside sheer tights and vertiginous platform boots.

Global singing sensation Dua Lipa opted for a figure-skimming black maxi with a fitted bust section and strap detailing. The New Rules artist paired her elegant gown with stilettos and wore her hair in sleek, side-parted waves.

True to form, Versace deviated from the norm when it traded in its usual Milan Fashion Week spot in favour of Los Angeles.

"For me Hollywood is both a place and a state of mind," the brand’s creative director Donatella Versace said in a statement. "It is about storytelling and magic, power and vulnerability, creativity, and emotional expression. It is a perfect location for Versace."

The Italian designer label upped sticks and showcased its AW23 collection in the City of Angels (24 hours ahead of schedule we might add, in anticipation of a storm). But if anything was amiss, it didn’t show on the runway. The likes of Naomi Campbell, Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid and Emily Ratajkowski graced the catwalk in sultry dresses that felt utterly synonymous with the Versace’s trademark aesthetic – think form-fitting silhouettes, sheer panels and plenty of black.
