Florence Pugh is no stranger to making a red carpet style statement, but her scarlet red Robert Wun cowboy hat and veil paired with coordinating peplum dress might just be her most outlandish look to date.

The 27-year-old actress attended the London Critics' Circle Film Awards at The May Fair Hotel in London on Sunday 5 February. She was awarded the British/Irish Actress Of The Year prize for her body of work in films such as Don’t Worry Darling, The Wonder, Puss In Boots and The Last Wish.

Florence wore an iconic ensemble, hailing from Robert Wun’s 2023 couture collection. “Ultimately, the collection is not about fear, it is about the desire to conquer fear,” Wun explained of his most recent designs “The will to embrace it [fear] and turn it into something empowering and beautiful.”

Although clearly her headgear was the most eye-catching element of the outfit (giving us all nostalgia for Pharrell’s Viviene Westwood 'Buffalo hat' era) we couldn’t help but notice the intricately pleated peplum hem of her dress. The trend, which has been dormant since the early 2010s looks prime to make a serious comeback. Search statistics at the time revealed that the term 'peplum dress' was 2012’s most popular fashion search term, closely followed by onesies and leather shorts. Glamour magazine called it "The silhouette of Spring 2012!"

If this isn't confirmation it's back, it’s at least proof that our love affair with Florence Pugh’s style is going nowhere.

Who is Robert Wun?

Robert Wun is a London-based fashion designer. Born in Hong Kong, he presented his womenswear graduate collection at London College of Fashion in 2012. He then launched his eponymous label in 2014. His signature is a fresh take on shoes and accessories, as well as creative tailoring, drawing inspiration from science fiction and the natural world.

“Through sculpted silhouettes and a futuristic approach to style, the label creates story-telling collections which explore narratives of identity through visibility and liberation,” the brand explains on its website. His designs have graced the likes of Celine Dion, Lady Gaga, Cardi B, Doja Cat and Solange. The designer has also been commissioned to make costumes for the Royal Ballet and the Hunger Games Movie Series.
