Lily James’ What’s Love Got to Do with it? Red carpet premiere look captured attention with her stunning custom lime green Miu Miu gown, giving last year’s visible bra trend a super sophisticated makeover.

She accessorised with dazzling jewellery from Nour by Jahan, vertiginous platforms from Jimmy Choo, wet-look tousled waves by Halley Brisker and a soft pink Charlotte Tilbury makeup look courtesy of her niece Sofia Tilbury, there was one other addition of opulence to complete her look – her freshly manicured lipgloss nails.

The first sartorial superstar to try this trend was Jennifer Lopez to the premiere of her latest movie Shotgun Wedding, created by Tom Bachik. Posting JLo’s nails on his Instagram he explained “Prep is key to a long lasting manicure!”.

What are lipgloss nails?

Lipgloss nails (also called wet look nails) are the latest glossy beauty craze to take over the internet. With almost 1 million views on TikTok already. They’re simple and they’re elegant, yet still align with the beauty’s current obsession with glassy-looking cosmetics. Of course, Hailey Bieber, who was crowned most popular Beauty Icon of 2022, was responsible for last year’s viral donut glazed nails. But lipgloss nails are a more subtle, less pearlescent version.

How do I create lipgloss nails?

Celebrity manicurist Michelle Class is the maestro behind Lily’s super sophisticated red carpet nails. She’s been responsible for the perfectly polished claws of some of the worl’d biggest fashion icons including Margot Robbie, Naomi Campbell and Charlotte Tilbury herself. Posting the Cinderella star’s nails on Instagram, she explained she created the look “using @biosculpturegelgb @charlottetilbury skincare Collagen superfusion Face oil and Magic Cream”.

If there’s one thing clear from the numerous tutorials on TikTok, it’s that you need a strenghener or base coat, a baby pink or nude gel colour (whichever lipgloss shade you desire), and a super shiny top coat.
