Fashion's proverbial boomerang is back again this season, and we are very much on board.

The blazer is a bona fide layering hero, capable of soothing all manner of style conundrums.

The tailoring favourite possesses the power of instant-elevation, capable of giving your 'fit a sharper, more polished edge - think angular, exaggerated shoulder lines.

But equally, the blazer can be utilised to underpin a more casual ensemble. Relaxed, slouchy shapes with unstructured shoulders and lightweight sleeves can be easily layered over baggy jeans or a denim split maxi skirt with a baseball cap and sunglasses

For many designers, the hourglass silhouette is the shape du jour. At Prada's SS24 show, waists were cinched with with svelte belts, styled alongside high-wasted paper bag shorts, and I'm personally still reeling from the calculated voluptuousness of Jason Wu's versions from last season.

How we chose:

  • Style and versatility: All our blazer picks feature a flattering silhouette and have been carefully selected in line with each individual street style outfit - not exact matches but with a strong resemblance - so you can easily recreate the look. When combing through the internet's top fashion sites for the best pieces, we made sure that our product inclusions either felt trend-relevant or timeless for maximum wearability.
  • Price: Whether you're planning on splashing out or bagging a bargain, we've got a blazer in your price range. We've selected this season's best, ranging from high-street brands to luxe designer labels.

Hello! Fashion shares our favourite ways to style a blazer:

With a Statement Belt

Cinch in your waist with a high-drama belt layered over your go-to oversized blazer for instant smart-casual cool.

Pin Stripe Blazer - John Lewis

Cut from a luxe wool blend, this piece by John Lewis is steeped in classic appeal. I am evangelical about the oft-overlooked navy, and I love the timelessness of the subtle white pinstripe.

Under a Boxy Jacket

Leather blazers add a beautiful, buttery-soft sleekness to an outfit, and an easy way of upping your layering game is by stying one under a boxy jacket in a similar finish.

Tan Leather Blazer - Mint Velvet
Tan Leather Blazer - Mint Velvet

Mint Velvet is having a bit of a moment right now, and it's not difficult to see why this tan leather blazer has caught my eye. It would make for an excellent outerwear investment, layering effortlessly over polo knits and chunkier sweaters alike, and I'm really into the contrasting buttons.

With Matching Trousers

A calculated monochrome moment never fails to deliver on impact and this season, buttery yellow is taking centre stage.

Knighton Jacket Meadow Yellow Stretch Cotton - The Fold
Knighton Jacket Meadow Yellow Stretch Cotton - The Fold

This cheery yellow version by The Fold is ideal if you're wanting to lean into a more fitted silhouette. Created from airy Italian stretch cotton, its Knighton jacket feels unfussy and luxe, and would actually make for a really cool addition to an al fresco wedding guest outfit.

With Leather Trousers

During the chiller months, we're all about mixing different cosy textures. Consider teaming a wool blazer with leather trousers for an interesting contrast.

Chocolate Velvet Suit Jacket - Claudie Pierlot
Chocolate Velvet Suit Jacket - Claudie Pierlot

I adore velvet, and not just for party season. Chocolate brown is one of the hottest hues of the moment, and this straight-fit jacket by French label Claudie Pierlot feels both plush and elegant.

With a Form-Fitting Midaxi

Created a shape contrast by styling a shoulder-padded, slightly masculine blazer silhouette alongside a figure-skimming midaxi.

Double-Breasted Blazer - H&M

I'm a sucker for fabric-covered buttons as I think they can make a piece appear super luxe. This striking scarlet blazer by H&M looks far more expensive than it actually is, and I like the gentle shaping created by the darts.

With Denim Separates

Don't be afraid to team your blazer alongside more traditionally casual fabrics such as denim for a cool smart-casual moment.

Oversized Wool Hopsack Blazer - Arket

Cut from pure wool hopsack, this double-breasted blazer by Arket would make for an excellent, seasonless addition to your tailoring repertoire. For a subtle textural contrast, I'm really loving the peak lapels.

With a Patterned Coat

Blazer mini dresses are a great choice if you're into structured femininity. For a tonal addition, try a patterned coat over the top.

Wool Blazer - Stella McCartney
Wool Blazer - Stella McCartney

Okay, full disclosure: this wool piece by Stella McCartney is technically just a blazer. But if you're willing to show a bit of daring, it would look amazing styled as a thigh-skimming dress. I love the drama of the shape, and think it could work really well with sheer tights and knee-high boots.

As an Hourglass Mini

If you love tailoring but are keen to retain a sense of shape, this is the look for you.

Lawson Slim Double Breasted Jacket - Jigsaw

Take yours cues from our favourite celebrity style icons and hop on the no-trouser trend with this piece by Jigsaw. Made from a virgin wool blend with a twill weave, I love the timeless longline cut and think it would look great with patterned tights and heeled boots.

With Warm Gold Accessories

Black and gold are a winning combination - dress up your party mini with lustrous gold jewellery.

Embellished Blazer Dress - Rotate Birger Christensen

A shiny finish gives a black blazer an immediate hit of party drama - and this version by Rotate Birger Christensen is seriously glam. The rhinestones feel glitzy and standout, and I like the interesting asymmetric element.

With Statement Metallics

Style a black cropped blazer with high-octane trousers for a standout party look - silver is the obvious trend-centric choice, but I could totally be swayed by the gold.

Asymmetric Tailored Cropped Blazer - Manière De Voir

A cropped blazer works really well with high-waisted pieces, and I love the slightly off-beat asymmetric twist on this version by Manière De Voir. It looks extremely expensive, despite boasting a relatively modest price point for this calibre of tailoring.

Over Elongated Sleeves

Elevate a reasonably mundane shirt and blazer combo by honing in on the details. Try high-impact shades and style your shirt so the coloured cuffs are visible under your blazer sleeves.

Oversized Blazer - H&M

Vibrant blazers can be very effective if you're looking to make an impact, but obviously they tend to be less wearable for everyday. Instead of investing, consider a more affordable version like this olive green piece by H&M. It's cheap, cheerful and would look gorgeous alongside bronzed skin and warm gold accessories.

With Two Belts

Insert instant drama with an accessory overload. Make your waist the focal point using two belts to emphasise your figure.

Power Blazer Suit-Style Jacket - Ba&sh

A beautifully cut black blazer is an outerwear must-have, and this version by French fashion label Ba&sh has a certain classic, enduring appeal. The shoulder line has a masculine edge, and it would work seamlessly layered over polo necklines.

With Textured Trousers

Embrace dopamine dressing with a striking blazer and style it with trousers in a matching hue, but with an added textural element.

Liana Tailored Masculine Blazer - Lavish Alice

Nothing says power like owning a larger-than-life hue, and if you're into zingy lime green, check out this blazer by Lavish Alice. Inspired by masculine tailoring, the piece has a boyfriend fit and can even be paired with matching trousers for maximum impact.

With a High-Impact Crop Top

Offset the drama of a daring crop top with a relaxed-fit blazer. Pieces with less structure have an air of in-built casual cool.

The Classic Relaxed Blazer - Reformation

Crafted from Tencel lyocell fibres, this lightweight blazer by It-girl adored label Reformation is the perfect choice if you're after a more fluid, relaxed shape. Style yours with baggy jeans and retro trainers for off-duty cool.

Over a Classic White Tee

The blazer and the timeless white T-shirt go together like a dream. Revolutionary? No. Foolproof? You bet.

Heavy Oversized Blazer - NA-KD
Heavy Oversized Blazer - NA-KD

In a lively green hue, this blazer by Swedish label NA-KD is the dopamine dresser's idea of tailoring heaven. Layer yours over a crisp white tee (and perhaps even a pinstripe shirt - I'm quite into how the brand has styled it here) for a simple, and yet effective, layering moment.

Over a Knitted Co-ord

Champion pastels and layer a powdery-hued blazer over a light, ribbed skirt co-ord with a luxe bag to tie it all together.

Crepe Relaxed Boyfriend Blazer - Whistles
Crepe Relaxed Boyfriend Blazer - Whistles

I personally tend to avoid pastels as they don't do my skin tone any favours, but there's just something about this pale blue Whistles blazer that I can't help but admire. The boyfriend fit feels contemporary and effortless and I love the weightless, fluid effect of the crepe.

With a Pleated Mini Skirt

Combine a classic straight-cut piece with flowy, fine pleats and consider chrome detailing to give the look a bit of edge.

Asymmetric Crêpe Blazer - Proenza Schouler
Asymmetric Crêpe Blazer - Proenza Schouler

Made in Slovakia from pale blue stretch-infused crêpe, this piece by Proenza Schouler is characteristically off-beat. Providing a masterclass in exemplary tailoring, the asymmetric cut oozes sophistication and overall, I feel it has a certain crisp optimism - ideal for spring.

With Similar Tones

Curate a tonal look by teaming your blazer alongside similar, harmonious hues.

Crepe Boyfriend Blazer - Michael Kors

In a spirited cornflower blue, this blazer by Michael Kors is cut from easy-breezy crépe and features a languid, boyfriend fit. Style yours with baggy jeans and a ribbed white tank top once the cold weather begins to thaw.

With Statement Boots

Bouclés and tweeds are experiencing something of a fashion renaissance at the moment, mostly in structured cardigan form, but we wouldn't say no to a chic blazer styled alongside high-impact boots.

Azzurra Tweed Cropped Blazer - French Connection
Azzurra Tweed Cropped Blazer - French Connection

For a pop of colour, consider French Connection's Azzurra blazer in a passionate scarlet hue. The tweed has a classic weightiness to it, and the cropped fit feels both boxy and cool - great with high-rise waists.

With Luxe, Clean Lines

A collarless blazer can look extremely elegant, especially with no top underneath to lean into the impact of a plunging neckline.

Ambero Single Breasted Collarless Blazer - Ted Baker

The look of Ted Baker's Ambero blazer is categorically luxe. I love the forgiving creaminess of the shade - sometimes bright white can feel a bit stark - and the subtle sexiness of the clean, collarless cut.
