In 2022, sustainable fashion is miles more stylish than the days of eccentric patchwork or upcycled hessian, in fact, there are more brilliant eco-friendly options out there than ever before – but where exactly to start?

Hello! Fashion has rounded up some of our favourite sustainable fashion designers and the pieces that we love from their current collections:

Eileen Fisher

While it feels that more of us than ever are interested in sustainable fashion right now, Eileen Fisher actually pioneered the lifestyle when she set up her eponymous brand back in 1984.

Originally working as an interior and graphic designer, she found it difficult to find clothes and noticed that collections lacked timeless shapes. Mara Hoffman

Mara Hoffman Fashion

Black maxi skirt and top by @marahoffman

After graduating from Parsons School of Design in 2000, Mara Hoffman set up her own label which "encourages consumers to re-evaluate the relationship society has with clothing", all while "remaining committed to presenting colourful collections inspired by and in celebration of women". And their spring collection does just that – think outlandish sleeves, opulent gold chunky jewellery and seriously flattering lines.

Marcus Wainwright is the Brit at the centre of New York-based Rag & Bone, a brand which has been a key player in the industry since 2002, excelling in quality jeans and classic footwear. "The mission here is to try and create a brand that is a go-to for just lovely things, things that you can keep in your wardrobe forever." Marcus told Harper's Bazaar in 2020. "It needs to just be so well made that you never want to throw it out."

Budapest-based Nanushka was created by Sandra Sandor in 2006, with an emphasis on materials with "low-impact credentials", with the aim of bringing out "pure design and conscious creativity together in a Bohemian Modernist outlook informed by travel, innovation and heritage". While the brand is known for its versatile bags, we're currently in love with its special collection with literature-inspired jewellery brand Alighieri.
