When you think of Kim Kardashian, what comes to mind? If one of the first thoughts is of her oddly futuristic home, complete with minimal decor and a singular tonal white and cream colour palette, you’re not alone.

With the assist from Axel Vervoordt and other international interior designers, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West transformed their suburban California estate into an "otherworldly oasis of purity and light," as Architectural Digest described in back in 2020, when the then couple let cameras into their unique home for the first time.

Now the former Mrs. West is the sole proprietor of the "futuristic Belgian monastery," as recently disgraced rapper Ye described it... having paid a rumoured $20 million to Kanye to keep the house in her and her children's (North, Saint, Chicago and Psalm) possession following their divorce. The home and former relationship has evidently fuelled her passion for neutral tones and Scandi minimalism, the aesthetic is noticeable across all her personal branding as of late - from Skims to Skkn to her dress sense.

Now Kim has taken her love of the neutral colour palette one step further, revealing on the latest episode of the IRL podcast, that all her staff are "colour-co-ordinated". When asked by host Angie Martinez whether it was intentional, Kim replied: "Absolutely," adding "It's not like 'Hey, this is your uniform', it's just colour palettes."

The employees are given a handbook, the Billionaire reality-star turned entrepreneur explained, and the staff can either wear "greys, heather grey, black, white, navy, cream or khaki,” continuing, "I mean we can stick with all neutrals, there's not a lot of colour blocking." She explained that her staff are actually happy with the peculiar dress code, “My house is so zen, so I asked how everyone felt about it and they all said: 'That would make our life so easy'... And once everyone was on board and thought it would be easier for them, I though 'Yeah, let's do this!'” She later joked that she should consider, "a free-dress day on their birthdays or something".

According to the popular theory of colour psychology, Kim’s approach does actually make perfect sense if you are trying to elicit a calming atmosphere. Hailey van Braam is the Editor in Chief of colorpsychology.org and has an MA degree in Cognitive Psychology.

Her website explains the following about the meaning of the colours Kim has asked her staff to wear:

Grey Colour Psychology Meaning

"Being both still and emotionless, gray is strong and steady, making a feeling of cool and self- restraint, and alleviates you from a riotous world. It doesn’t invigorate, empower, revive or energize. When it comes to color psychology, the ones who love gray color are the ones who try to protect themselves from the world around them. It shows that those peoples prefer a safe and balanced existence. It shows that those people don’t want to hurt their emotions. They control their emotions to avoid an emotional pain."

White Colour Psychology Meaning

"The colour white has the property of bringing calmness, comfort, and hope. It acts like a real medicine that soothes your hurt sole, and it will give your life a sense of order and meaning, helping to de-cluttering from all the negative aspects. It will offer an inner cleansing, for your thoughts and soul, being the ultimate source of pure energy."

Black Colour Psychology Meaning

"In Feng Shui black has a way of harmonizing your home, office, and other environments. It can be associated with the water elements and evokes power, mystery, and calm. It even can have a grounding effect when it is used sparingly."
