Barbie is officially going to be the most fashionable film of the year. Dua Lipa has announced she will star in the hotly-anticipated movie alongside Margot Robbie, and fans cannot contain their excitement.
Robbie proved she was the ultimate Barbie in the film trailer released in December, showcasing a slew of outfits that evoked as much sartorial serotonin as they did nostalgia. And Dua is the addition to the cast we never knew we needed.
From her 1980s Bond girl look to naked dresses and thong-baring backless dresses, the international megastar has cemented her place as one of the biggest fashion muses on the planet. So much so she was announced as a co-chair for this year’s upcoming Met Gala alongside Penélope Cruz, Michaela Coel and Anna Wintour.

The Levitiating singer posted an image to her Instagram page that gave the ‘mermaidcore’ trend a whole new meaning. She wore the ultimate blue pearlescent shell bandeau that was reminiscent of the first mermaid Barbie's from the 90s. And though the original dolls kept the character's signature blonde locks, Dua rocked the wackiest blue curly wig that both Dolly Parton and Marge Simpson would approve of. A blue and pearl necklace and dangle earrings (another revived retro accessories style) completed her exceptional outfit, whilst a scintillating blue eye glam look made the case for last year's Y2K beauty trend to stay for summer 2023.

We’ve been expecting the singer-cum-fashion icon to add ‘actor’ to her list of accolades since last year. Her debut movie Argylle – a spy movie directed by Kingsman director Matthew Vaughn, was due to be released in 2022 but was pushed back to this year.
A double dose of Dua in character awaits and we can’t wait.
Barbie will be released in the UK on July 21 2023.
