Union Jack flags will be flying throughout Great Britain on Saturday 6th May when Charles III is crowned King at Westminster Abbey.
But how will we be paying sartorial tribute to the landmark occasion? Well luckily a host of high-end brands are whetting our current monarchy-fuelled coronation obsession, including one of Princess Kate’s go-to labels.
LK Bennett have designed a pair of “Royal” earrings in honour of the coronation. The statement sparklers feature a pearl embellished orb and are finished with a majestic pearl drop. The Princess of Wales has been a longtime fan of the British brand. During her first few years as a royal she wore their nude heels on a regular basis, and has championed them over the years, sparking countless sell-outs.
LK Bennett aren’t the only ones getting in on the action however. “Over the years we have crafted jewels for royalty around the world,” says Jeremy Morris, CEO and Creative Director of David Morris. The revered jewellers are creating a limited edition tiara and unique coronation-inspired ring to mark the milestone. “We are known as The London Jeweller, so we are delighted to mark this once-in-a-lifetime event in our home city with two very special, one-of-a-kind pieces of High Jewellery.”
In honour of the coronation we share the 5 pieces of luxury coronation jewellery you need to have on your radar:
LK Bennett - The Coronation Earrings
Designed in honour of the King's Coronation this May, the aptly-named ‘Royal’ earrings, have a distinctly regal feel. The gold-plated earrings feature a green crystal stud falling to a crystal and pearl embellished orb and are finished with a majestic pearl drop. “Wear them for the Coronation bank holiday weekend and for all the special moments in your diary.”
David Morris - The Coronation Ring and Tiara
In honour of this remarkable national occasion David Morris is set to unveil the Coronation Ring and Tiara. Celebrating a pivotal moment in British history, these exceptional High Jewellery creations and collector’s pieces are inspired by the London High Jewellery house’s proud British heritage and links to the royal family.
The Coronation Ring takes its inspiration from three colours that are synonymous with the Union Jack, the Flag of Great Britain: red, white and blue. Conveying this famous combination of colours in a spiral of precious gems, the High Jewellery unisex ring showcases more than seven carats of red spinels and diamonds alongside a beautifully saturated 17.30 carat cushion cut blue spinel. Designed in David Morris’s design studio on London’s Bond Street, rows of diamonds swirl around the vivid centre stone and clusters of red spinels, creating waves of light. The 17.30 carat blue spinel was specially sourced for the Coronation Ring by Jeremy Morris. "Blue is a colour that is closely associated with royalty and this wonderful spinel perfectly expresses why," explains Morris, "The colour is so bright and intense and its brilliance simply mesmerising. It is rare to find a blue spinel. Even rarer still is a spinel displaying such an incredible deep violet-blue hue, which rivals the finest sapphires."
Set to be broadcast all over the world, this kind of major royal event always results in a flurry of tiara enquiries at David Morris, and their boutique on Bond Street will have just the jewel for the occasion: the Coronation Tiara. The ultimate jewel in which to celebrate the Coronation Weekend, or any special event that calls for an exquisite diadem, this unique piece reinterprets the elongated petals of the Trillium flower in a contemporary style. Set with more than 24 carats of diamonds, a burst of rose-cut diamonds is framed by delicate round stones and set in a wishbone style to curve upwards to a soft point.
Annoushka - The Coronation Charm
In a continuation of her reign as the 'Queen of Charms' British fine jewellery designer Annoushka has designed a limited-edition commemorative 'Crown Charm' to mark the upcoming coronation on May 6. The intricately detailed charm will be a representation of the St Edwards Crown which King Charles will wear on the day and each charm will bear the official coronation hallmark. Crafted in 18ct yellow and white gold, a central carved amethyst (representing the purple velvet cap) will be surrounded by emeralds, yellow sapphires, rubies, sapphires, amethysts - black diamonds and white diamonds.
Tru Diamonds - The Coronation Necklace
Earth-friendly jewellers Tru-Diamonds are the world's premier non-mined gems, sustainably grown in state-of-the-art laboratories. They look so much like top-grade mined diamonds, even an eagle-eyed jeweller won’t know when you’re wearing them. Tru-Diamonds' 'Royal Coronation Necklace,' embodies the timeless glamour of the monarchs necklace. Featuring 54.8ct stones that give it a shimmering display of opulence, you won’t go unnoticed when you wear this exceptional piece, which is based on the necklace Queen Elizabeth II wore to her own coronation.
To celebrate the coronation of King Charles, wedding and engagement specialists Jessica Flinn have recreated the most famous royal engagement rings in a modern way. With a splash of Art Deco, this coronation cocktail ring is sure to turn heads. Jessica Flinn’s designer Jessie decided to give the late Queen's ring a pop of colour, true to her brand's signature style. Featuring a purple sapphire, this ring isn't for the faint of heart.
