Trust Zendaya to take an accessory out of the fashion archives and make it achingly cool again. The Euphoria star has been proudly showing off her latest addition to her jewellery stash, and we are all now lusting after signet rings once more.
The 26-year-old powerhouse refreshed her manicure with trusted nail artist Marina Dobik, who gave us a glimpse of Zendaya’s stunning gold signet ring, engraved with the letters ‘TH’. Eagle eyed Zendaya fans and Tomdaya worshippers alike noticed that they denote the initials of her boyfriend’s name; Tom Holland. While we aren't sure if the ring originally belonged to the Spiderman star or if Zendaya had the bauble made in tribute to her beau, but one thing is for sure; we now have gold signet rings firmly at the top of our wishlist.

What is the history of the signet ring?
According to The History Press, the ‘signet ring’ was used as long ago as 3500 BC. Records show the people of Mesopotamia used limestone carved cylindrical seals as marks of authenticity. “By the time of the ancient Egyptians the seal had become attached to a ring and Pharaohs and other important people of the day would wear them to show their position.”
Fast forward to medieval Europe and signet rings were usually emblazoned with a family crest and they would be used to stamp, or sign an official document. The metal shapes would leave a permanent mark in any soft wax and sometimes on clay stamps, “Some of the most important documents in history have been stamped with a signet ring. In its day the stamp of a ring was seen as more authentic than a signature,” The History Press explains. Steeped in history the signet ring has become a staple in our jewellery boxes to this day.
