Paul Haggis joins Hollywood elite at Festival gala

Oscar-winning director and screenwriter Paul Haggis mingled with some of Tinseltown's top names this week when he stepped out to the Hollywood Film Festival Awards.

The 53-year-old Canadian and his wife of nine years, actress Deborah Rennard, joined screen beauties Demi Moore, Sharon Stone and Lindsay Lohan, as well as Hollywood heavyweights Robert De Niro and Clint Eastwood at the gala. The Festival's glamorous finale has a reputation for being especially popular within the industry, as the absence of TV cameras means the stars can enjoy themselves in a more relaxed environment than that offered by other ceremonies.

Paul was barely out of his tux when it was time for another high-profile date – this time with TV host Craig Ferguson. Currently busy promoting Flags Of Our Fathers, for which he co-wrote the screenplay, Paul dropped by for a chat with the Late Late Show host about the Clint Eastwood-directed WWII flick.

And the Ontario-born talent, who picked up two Academy Award gongs for his direction of 2006 movie Crash, will soon be back in the director's chair himself for his upcoming oeuvre In The Valley Of Elah. The Iraq war-inspired production, which stars Charlize Theron and Tommy Lee Jones, will be lensed in New Mexico and Morocco over the coming months.
