Saturday's episode of Strictly Come Dancing was certainly eventful.

Not least because it signalled the end of the road for former cricketer Phil Tufnell, who became the latest celebrity to exit the competition.

Despite receiving praise for "upping his game", the former I'm A Celebrity… winner and his partner Katya Virshilas found themselves in the bottom two fighting for survival against EastEnders' Ricky Groves.

The latter was saved by head judge Len Goodman who was given the deciding vote.

Meanwhile there was a new – albeit very familiar - face on the block.

Ronnie Corbett made a surprise appearance filling in for usual host Bruce Forsyth after the veteran broadcaster was struck down with the flu and was forced to miss the show for the first time.

Initially the BBC had said Tess Daly - whose backstage role was covered by Claudia Winkleman - would front the show alone in Bruce's absence.

But the comedian stepped in after revealing the Generation Game presenter had called him on Friday night.

"Nice to see you to see you nice," said Ronnie at the start of the show, before quipping: "If anyone can help out at short notice, it's me" in reference to his stature.

There were a few casualties on the dance floor too, with Jade Johnson forced to pull out of the episode with a knee injury.

Actress Laila Rouass was left in tears when she was unable to complete her rumba because of problems with her ankle.

But despite only being marked on the first half of her dance and receiving just 22 points, the brunette beauty made it through to the next round.
