Jamie Oliver's new Buddy balances out 'oestrogen-filled' house

16 SEPTEMBER 2010

After three girls, it's a bit of a novelty having a boy.

So Jamie Oliver didn't waste any time letting the world know when his wife Jools gave birth to the couple's first son – or showing off his picture.

The ecstatic TV chef tweeted an image of the newborn shortly after his arrival, looking pink and ruddy and still wearing his hospital tag.

Before the birth Jamie said he was hoping for a brother for Poppy Honey, eight, Daisy Boo, seven, and one-year-old Petal.

He said: "It would be great to have a boy, as I am in a totally oestrogen-filled house. But I really don't mind as long as it's healthy".

Of course, Jools, also 35, will be delighted too.

As her husband recently explained, despite his misgivings that she might tire of her stay-at-home role, having a large family has been the making of her.

"She just wanted to be a mother and that was it. I didn't understand at all. Why would you want to be a mother? We all want to have jobs and careers, don't we?

"Everyone around me was the same. Until she became a mother, I never understood how honest she was being. She's a mum and that's her world."
