Golden moment for glowing Natalie Portman as she scoops top honours at Globes

Less than three weeks in and 2011 is already shaping up to be an incredible year for Natalie Portman. The newly engaged and expectant actress took top honours at Sunday evening's glittering Golden Globes – putting her right on track for Oscar glory.Blooming Natalie - who showcased her baby bump on the red carpet in a Viktor and Rolf gown and Tiffany jewels - was named best actress at the ceremony for her role as disturbed ballet dancer Nina Sayers in Black Swan.

Taking to the stage to receive her award, the 29-year-old paid tribute to her family – from her parents in the audience, to her new fiancé Benjamin Mille pied and the child they are expecting together.Before thanking her co-stars, including "Mila 'Sweet Lips' Kunis", Natalie honoured her mum and dad, and also her grandmother watching in Cincinnati. "I hope you're having a drink Grandma," she quipped.She then had special words for her future husband, 33, who choreographed the film and also had a small role playing a ballet dancer who "wouldn't sleep" with Natalie's character.Thanking Benjamin for "helping me bring more creation into the world" in reference to their baby, cheeky Natalie went on to joke: "He's the best actor. He totally loves sleeping with me!"

British star Colin Firth is also being touted to win an Oscar after picking up the best actor gong for his portrayal of King George VI in The King's Speech. The 50-year-old, who saw off strong competition, thanked his "supernaturally talented fellow cast members", in particular Helena Bonham Carter, his "exquisite no-nonsense queen".And giving host Ricky Gervais a run for his money, Colin (pictured with wife Livia) had the crowd in stitches in as he made reference to his advancing years. "To get to this stage of your life with your dignity and judgement in tact can be somewhat precarious," he said. "Sometimes all you need is a bit of gentle reassurance to keep you on track but right now this (award) is all that stands between me and a Harley Davidson."

Fellow Brit Christian Bale picked up the best supporting actor trophy for The Fighter – his co-star Melissa Leo was honoured as best supporting actress.It was also a big night for The Social Network, which beat Black Swan, The Fighter, Inception and The King's Speech to be crowned best film and win David Fincher the best director award.The Kids Are All Right meanwhile received the best picture (comedy) gong, with its star Annette Bening winning best comedy actress. Paul Giamatti picked up the best comedy actor award for his turn in Barney's Version.And hit TV show Glee was named best TV series musical or comedy, with Chris Colfer and Jane Lynch both receiving awards for their roles.
