Naomi says she found 'peace' in New York cleaning duties

Members of the New York legal system will be happy to hear that far from resenting her recent community service, Naomi Campbell gained inner calm from her sweeping and mopping duties. In an entry from a diary she kept of the period, published in a US magazine, the supermodel admits that she took "solace in sweeping".

The catwalk queen, who was given the municipal chores after an incident involving her assistant, took a positive approach to her sentence by using it to reflect on her life. "I have the time to think," she confesses in the journal. "Just have, you know, peace."

In another extract the fashionista speaks about how she found common ground with her sanitation department colleagues. Says Naomi: "One of my co-workers tells me how he ended up here, basically because of alcohol. I bond with him and tell him that I'm in recovery."

Thirty-six-year-old Naomi - who planned to auction the clothes she wore during the five-day sentence - feels she has "paid (her) debt to society", but is now considering therapy.
