Naomi goes from catwalk to softball pitch for 'Ugly Betty' turn

1 MAY 2008

Shutters whirring, photographers on all sides strove to get the perfect shot of Naomi Campbell as the pouting catwalk star hit softballs across a field. It wasn't in honour of a new sports advertising campaign the model was fronting, however, but all part of the set up for a forthcoming episode of Ugly Betty.

In the show, fashion assistant Betty's magazine Mode gets challenged to a charity softball game by one of their competitors. They get more than they bargained for, however, when Naomi struts onto the pitch ready to do battle. Though her outfit - hotpants and shocking-red tights with a pair of towering lace-up wedges - may not be standard softball attire, the statuesque beauty proves a formidable opponent.

In one scene the 37-year-old hits a ball high into the air and causes Ugly Betty, played by America Ferrera, to crash into her team mates as she scrambles to catch it.

US viewers can check out Naomi's batting skills when the episode hits American TV on May 22.
