Their usual place at a fashion event is in the front row. But to help kick start New York Fashion Week, a host of glam celebs took to the catwalk to strut their stuff for the Red Dress Runway show – and leading the pack were British beauties Cat Deeley and Natasha Bedingfield. The duo were just two of 22 stars in Scarlet who were showcasing requisite red gowns – created by a host of famous fashion designers - to help raise awareness for women's heart disease.

Wearing one of the night's standout designs, So You Think You Can Dance host Cat, 34, did a turn in a standout Alberta Ferretti pleat dress, while her fellow countrywoman Natasha, who closed the event with a rendition of her single Strip Me, went for a plunging vintage-style Nicole Miller number. Their American counterparts were just as arresting. Stealing the show was burlesque artist Dita Von Teese, whose hourglass figure, porcelain skin and raven hair proved the perfect match for her corseted Zac Posen dress. Denise Richards – casting her ex-husband Charlie Sheen's current troubles aside - put on a big smile and a pale red frock by Matthew Williamson for the event, which is held to kick-start New York Fashion Week.

And Eva Amurri – watched by her proud mum Susan Sarandon – soaked up the spotlight in a high-neck lace dress by Chris Benz. She wasn’t the only one receiving an extra show of support. Camila Alves was cheered on by her snap-happy man Matthew McConaughey as she showcased a sexy asymmetrical gown by KaufmanFranco. MTV star Audrina Patridge, Gayle King – Oprah's best friend – Laila Ali, actress Taraji P Henson and Julianne Hough also joined in the fun. Each woman was quite literally marching to their own tune at the fashion show; Muhammed Ali's pregnant daughter Laila, for example, - wearing a design by A Pea in a Pod - strutted to a rendition of I'm Gonna Knock You Out.
