The red carpet was reserved for two of Hollywood's hottest action men this week as both Daniel Craig and Denzel Washington made appearances on different sides of the Atlantic. The smouldering new James Bond gave his Spanish fans a slice of 00Heaven as he attended a photo-call for Casino Royale in Madrid on Monday.

Cheshire-born Daniel's debut as the British secret agent has been hailed a huge success, helping his movie make the biggest ever opening weekend for a Bond movie and topping the British box office.

While the suave leading man delighted onlookers in the Spanish capital, stunt experts back home were paying tribute to his action skills. "Without a doubt Daniel is the toughest," says Gary Powell, who has worked on several Bond movies. "Daniel really took some hits on Casino Royale," he explained." "I'd see him bruised and cut up, fight after fight. And he'd just say 'That smarted a bit, let's go again'."

Former soldier Joss Skottowe - who was tasked with teaching the 38-year-old how to use a gun - went even further. "Daniel is the only Bond who in real life could pass SAS selection. He's fit, he looks like a killer and he's smart."

While Daniel is only just starting to make his mark as a screen action hero, 51-year-old Denzel has been in the business for some time longer. The Inside Man star was flashing his trademark megawatt smile as he attended the New York premiere of his new crime thriller Déjà vu. He only recently saw the completed version himself, complete with all the special effects and technical wizardry. "I was like, 'Man, this is good'," he said, "And I'm in it!".
