Brad and Angelina spread Christmas cheer in Costa Rica

Hollywood's hottest couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt shunned the glitz and glamour of a celebrity Christmas, choosing instead to spend it helping others. Reflecting the true spirit of the festive season, the globe-trotting duo travelled to Costa Rica where they handed out gifts to refugee children in the capital, San Jose.

The visit was part of Angelina's work as a United Nations goodwill ambassador, helping to highlight the plight of Columbian refugees who have fled to Costa Rica. "We had a wonderful Christmas both with the Costa Rican people and the Columbian refugee families we met," said the Tomb Raider beauty.

"The conflict in Colombia is the greatest humanitarian tragedy in the Western hemisphere, but it receives very little international attention," she added. "My Christmas message to Colombian refugees and to the millions of displaced people in Colombia is that the world has not totally forgotten them."

Angelina and her Mr And Mrs Smith co-star, who recently visited Cambodia with their young family, stopped by some small businesses and chatted to families. It's not the first time they've taken time out to help others during the season of goodwill. The big-hearted duo spent Thanksgiving 2005 aiding earthquake victims in Pakistan.
