Spring into Summer with our guide to a glowing complexion

29 MARCH 2012

Is your skin dry and dehydrated? That's because the cold weather has taken its toll.

Cold air greatly affects your epidermis, causing a decrease in blood circulation as well as low oxygen levels and nutritional deficiencies in the blood.

The final result is that when Spring comes, your skin is dehydrated and dry, with noticeable veins. What you need is a treatment and a good cleansing routine to revitalise your skin and body that gets you ready for Summer.

Cleansing routine

Your skin care routine in Spring should be aimed at recuperating the vitality of your epidermis from the effects of Winter and protecting it from future cold-weather assaults.

Cleansing milk and other skin-renovating cosmetics can be helpful, but the key to keeping your skin in good condition for the Summer months is hydration, so it’s very important to use a good moisturising cream and drink plenty of fluids.

TLC with a face mask

The easiest, quickest and most convenient way to clean out your pores and exfoliate dead skin cells is with cleansing facial masks. They are fast-acting with immediately visible effects. As soon as you wash it off, your skin feels more relaxed and is free of blemishes and impurities.

Take time out and relax when you've applied your face mask. That way, your skin not only benefits from its therapeutic effect, but also from the positive effects of physical and psychological relaxation.

Watch out for the sun and your diet

Remember to eat well. A balanced and healthy diet, rich in antioxidants, carotenes and vitamins A and E, is very beneficial to your skin. But they won't be enough to completely protect you from sun exposure – you need to help defend it with sun block.

The Spring sun is stronger than it seems, and since your skin isn't used to being exposed after those long Winter months, your epidermis is much more sensitive to its effects.
