'Overwhelmed' One Direction immortalised as Madame Tussauds waxworks

It's the next best thing to seeing them in real life - One Direction have been immortalised as waxwork figures by Madame Tussauds. And just like the real thing, the 1D replicas are heading off on a world tour, beginning in London before travelling to New York and Sydney. "We're just kind of a bit overwhelmed," Harry Styles said of the lifelike figures. "We've been to Madame Tussauds and seen the kind of people who are in there. It's crazy to think that we will be up there with them."

His bandmate Zayn Malik agrees. "All the biggest stars in the world get these wax figures made of them and why are we, five normal lads, getting these made?" he said. "It's an amazing honour, really cool and we can't wait to see them. "The 1D boys had two sittings and hundreds of measurements taken for their waxworks, which each cost £150,000 to make. Madame Tussauds have confirmed that the band will be sat on a school-style double bench - and that their fans will be able to sit next to them.

"We have been overwhelmed by requests for us to feature One Direction," Liz Wells, Global Head of Marketing, said of the worldwide demand for the boys. "Louis, Liam, Harry, Zayn and Niall have all been involved throughout the sculpting process and discussing the style their figures will be portrayed in. "Principle sculptor Stephen Mansfield said One Direction's global appeal meant the pressure was really on. "We are acutely aware that millions of fans around the world will have a lot to say about these figures and we are determined not to let them down," he said. "The boys have been a delight to work with, really cooperative and a huge amount of fun."
