The Our Friends In The North star is also a familiar face to movie fans having played Nicole Kidman's long-lost husband in The Others, Ewan McGregor's flatmate in Shallow Grave, and hollow-eyed base leader Major Henry West in 28 Days Later. He returned to TV, however, to follow in the footsteps of actors Tom Baker, Jon Pertwee and Peter Davison as The Doctor in The New Dr Who.
