Spain's fashionable new crown princess and her husband Prince Felipe had a busy work schedule ahead of them when they embarked on their first visit to the Balkans since they were married in May of this year.

The striking couple, who clearly enjoy their public duties and have packed in a lot of travelling in the past few months, were in Belgrade to inaugurate a Spanish cultural centre. The new Cervantes centre, which will offer local people the chance to study Spain's languages and its culture, is located in the heart of the historic capital of Serbia-Montenegro.

Former newscaster Letizia, who has quickly become a fashion icon after appearing in a parade of gorgeous outfits at various events, was swathed in a long wool navy coat and close-fitting earth tone scarf, to keep out the frosty winter chill. The royals were due to attend a series of cultural events and official meetings before returning to Madrid to celebrate Christmas.

In Spain, expectations are running high for the crown prince and his wife to start a family, but the only royal pregnancy news was the recent announcement that Felipe's sister, the Infanta Cristina, is expecting her fourth child. The popular prince, 36, kept his people waiting for a crown princess and seems happy to enjoy his new life with Letizia before they embark on parenthood.

As usual, the popular royals seemed to be enjoying their public engagement: they are in Belgrade to open a new Cervantes centre
