AFFECTIONATE GREETING FROM WILLS AND HARRY FOR UNCLES

16 JUNE 2006

The Queen's grandsons were clearly delighted to be reunited with members of their extended family on Thursday. William and Harry, who are both currently undergoing military training, bestowed an especially warm greeting on their uncles Prince Edward and Prince Andrew, greeting them with a kiss on the cheek.

The rare display of public affectiom came as Wills and his younger brother attended a packed service of thanksgiving at St Paul's Cathedral in honour of their grandmother, who turned 80 in April. The boys were among 30 members of the royal family attending the service.

Afterwards the Queen moved on to nearby Mansion House for a banquet hosted by the Lord Mayor. There she borrowed the phrase of a famous wit to play down the importance of her birthday. "As Groucho Marx once said, anyone can get old – all you have to do is live long enough," she quipped. Her Majesty also paid tribute to Prince Charles and her husband for "all the support they give me each and every day".
